Google I/O Extended ATLANTA Session

Alright, it's on, we'll be having a Google I/O Extended Session in Atlanta, and here are the details.

May 10th and 11th from 12noon to 9PM EST
300 Interstate North Pkwy SE Atlanta, GA (more details and map below)

Google will stream the main I/O keynotes each day (starting at 9AM PST, 12noon EST) and then the two main conference rooms. We'll watch the keynotes live, and then vote on which conference room to put on the main screen.

Robert Cooper will head up this event on behalf of GTUG Atlanta (Charlie will be out of town, as will David and Chris, our normal Google hosts.)

The Weather Channel has helped organize this event and will be providing the space where we will meet. The location for the event is 300 Interstate North Pkwy SE Atlanta, GA 30339

Also, The Anteo Group will be helping us out a great deal by providing refreshments. We're still working on the exact menu, and it will depend on how many people sign up, but plan on snacks and drinks being provided.

April Meeting - Android 3.0 "Honeycomb"

On Tuesday April 26th at 7PM Robert Cooper will dive into what's new with Android 3.0 "Honeycomb." Cooper is an experienced Android developer who has ported several apps to 3.0 for use on tablets. Check out his Shortyz crossword puzzle app if you have an Android device, and come to the meeting to see how it works on a fancy Motorola Xoom, or hacked up Nook Color.

We'll also start out with details of the upcoming Google I/O Extended session that will be held in Atlanta (trying to have it all finalized before then).

February Meeting - Google Apps Script

After a small hiatus for the holidays and other end-of-year mayhem, we're back!
Tuesday Feb 22nd, 7PM at Google Midtown:

Shel Davis will re-introduce us to Google Apps Script. If you haven't heard of Apps Script, you're missing out on some good stuff. If you have heard of it, then you know it's a quick and powerful way to automate tasks across different Google products (and integrate with third party solutions). Come check it out.

September Meeting - Fri Sept 24th: Cross device mobile dev with Josh Marinacci

such as PhoneGap, Sencha, JQTouch, and more.

NOTE: Our Sept meeting won't be held on the last Tuesday like our normal pattern, rather it will be Friday the 24th (same time and place though, 7PM, Google Midtown). We're making this exception because it gives us the opportunity to have Josh speak to the group while he is in town. Trust me, it's worth it. August Meeting - Tues 31st: Better Java with Guava and Guice (and GIN for GWT)

For this month's gathering GTUG-Atlanta will discuss the Google Guava libraries for Java, Guice, and GIN/GWT. The theme here is that you can create concise, powerful Java code with these helpful libraries. Yes, I said "Java" and "concise" in the same sentence! Same place (Google Midtown, info below), 7PM Tuesday August 31st.

We all know Java has its rough spots, but Guava and Guice can help iron a lot of that out. Guava is packed with useful utilities that we'll explore, and Guice is a lightweight dependency injection framework that can help you better organize, test, and maintain code. Some of the features in these Google created open source libraries are slated to be included in Java 7.

I'll be presenting an overview on Guava and Guice. If you aren't familiar with these, this talk should be a great introduction. If you are familiar, please come and heckle me and help us out with questions and general discussion.

Robert Cooper will then be presenting an intro to GIN (GWT INjection). I don't know if he'll call it "Sipping on GIN and Guice" or not, that's his choice, but I'd note that that title is there for the taking. GIN is a dependency injection framework for GWT that is built on top of Guice.
